A varied natural landscape
You see the unique landscape on the island even as you arrive at Texel with the ferry. There's a variety of landscapes to be found on the largest Wadden island of the Netherlands. Extensive dunes, two large woods, but flat pastures too. The unique nature is ideal for a diverse flora and fauna that is wonderful to discover while hiking. The Dunes of Texel National Park is a beautiful place to start.
Symbol of Texel
The Texel red lighthouse stands on the north-most point of the island The surrounding waters turned out to be dangerous for shipping. Mr. Kikkert, a former Texel notary, fought a long battle for a lighthouse that he won in 1864. The tower houses a small exhibition of the history, and it's also possible to climb this symbol of Texel. After a climb of 118 steps, you are rewarded with a magnificent view over the North and Wadden seas, even as far as the neighbouring island of Vlieland.

The beaches form part of the varied nature of Texel. There are more than 30 kilometres of beaches, plenty of room for everyone.
