Veerse Meer

LARGO De Veerse Wende is located right on the shores of the Veerse Meer, giving you endless possibilities to explore this wetland area. Cruising over to one of the islands, which are free to visit, is a great way to see more of the Veerse Meer. While a boat trip is an obvious choice, you can also go for a stroll along the Veerse Meer or sit back and relax on one of the beaches. The area is unique due to the fact that salt water from the Eastern Scheldt is released into the lake. As a result, increasingly rare animal species see this as their ultimate habitat.

Fishing village with a rich history

A visit to Arnemuiden is definitely a must. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the village had one of the most important harbours in all of Zeeland. Though waterway closures destroyed the harbour long ago, ‘Erremuu’ is still considered a fishing village. Arnemuiden is one of the last places in the Zeeland province where visitors can still see traditional clothing being worn. Veere is certainly a city filled with history as well. This former trade city is home to many old streets and monuments. You can therefore spend hours roaming around Veere and discover something new every time.

Beautiful nature and water sports

From your own private jetty, you can head out across the Veerse Meer by boat to explore the beautiful nature surrounding the lake. If you fancy a more high-energy activity, you can also try one of the many water sports options. Because it is closed off from the North Sea, the Veerse Meer is an ideal spot for divers and surfers. The water of the Veerse Meer is so clear that you can see shellfish lying on the lake floor.

Unique Zeeland cities

In addition to visiting the smaller towns of Veere and Arnemuiden, you can explore larger cities in the area as well. Middelburg, Vlissingen and Zierikzee each have their own rich history, and are also great destinations for shopping.
