White houses and domed churches with blue roofs
Fira is the capital of the island of Santorini and one of the most fascinating places in Greece. Building was done in a unique way on the steep cliffs of the crater of Santorini with a view facing west. It offers amazing views and the sunsets you see from here are breathtaking. White houses and domed churches with blue roofs at different levels give Fira its unique look.
Santorini is the southernmost island in the Cyclades archipelago and owes its current shape to the numerous volcanic eruptions that have occurred here over the centuries. Prior to 15 B.C., the island was still round; today, it more or less resembles a half moon. The rest of the island disappeared into the sea and settlers built houses, villages and churches on the edges of the craters. These villages are situated approximately 300 metres high and the view of the sea is indescribably beautiful. Santorini's history is both fascinating and impressive.
